Donny Berini Owner
Donny is a Durham native whose family roots date back to the early 1900’s. He had a great grandfather who was a stone mason, a grandfather who was a brick mason, and his father was a custom home builder. Donny and his family through four generations have contributed to helping build Durham over the past 100 years. At an early age, his passion for building was rooted deep while watching his father and frequently visiting jobsites. Driven at the age of 14 to earn extra spending money, Donny earned his first job working the driving range at Hillandale Golf Course. At age 16, Donny began working as a laborer and carpenter for his father’s company while also attending high school. In 1992, he graduated from Northern Durham High School. From there he attended East Carolina University and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a Concentration in Construction Management. From 1996 through 2002, Donny completed projects in NC, SC, and Georgia as a project manager for two different construction companies. During this period Donny met his wife, Leigh Anne, in Charleston, SC. From 2002-2010 Donny returned home to Durham and worked in the family business as a project superintendent. In 2010, Donny made the decision to start BERCON. Once the decision was made, he converted a spare bedroom into a home office and got to work. In the beginning, Donny was the only employee with nothing more than an old truck, a toolbox full of tools, and years of experience. His approach was simple - be honest, be on time, be accountable, and do what you say you will do. A lot has changed since then except for the approach. Today, he is proud of his employees as BERCON continues to experience growth and success in the commercial, multi-family, and assisted living construction industries. Donny has two boys - JC and Louis. JC is studying Business at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington. Louis is a student athlete at Greensboro College. Outside of work Donny enjoys exercising, watching baseball, playing golf, traveling, reading, mountain biking, & hiking the Eno River.
